Metal in the SkyHow to Build a Star |
RaceThis is "Orion" a piece by Mark di Suvero. I've walked past this sculpture more times than I can count, many of those not bothering to take in the abstractness of this art. Above is one of my personal favorite images. I took the photos from beneath the sculpture, using the sky as my neutral background. I wanted it them to seem like you could find them on the wall in a modern art gallery, clean and eye bending.

FuturisticTower of Cube |
Window? The Cube on Michigan campus is something that draws tourists and incoming college students like flies. I had to wait for them all to leave and several minutes after it stopped spinning before I could take my images. My goal during this was to make it look less like something in the middle of a courtyard and more like something you could spot in a science fiction movie. With this in mind, that I why I made the decision to rotate my blue print image. I personally have never seen the Cube from this perspective before taking these pictures.

A Place for ArtWaiting Room |
Twisted AnkleI loved the minimalistic artsy-ness of this sitting area in the LSA building. Even though it was made for practicality and calm the way I perceived it was like a room you'd find on a 20's catalogue. For the images above I wanted to express the emptiness of the boxes as well as playing with perspective to make them seem like what they're not. I didn't have any particular difficulties with these photos, only in choosing what in the room I wanted to capture.

Gloomy DaySharp Edges |
Edge of the WorldThese 3 images encompass the true gray and gloom of the day I took them. I wasn't able to get almost any color out of them. This building is the Museum of Art across from Orion. I liked the way that the top of the building sat like a block above the rest and I could take images from underneath. It was difficult for me to find angles that were fresh and new as well as with substance.

Historic DistrictHow to Build |
Out of FocusIt is always fascinating to see the old in with the new. I love the fact that I can take a picture of something in such a modern city and find old stained glass and bulbs. There is always a gathering of people under this sign so I had a hard time finding the right angle. Each of these images is taken in the process of walking so I didn't run into anyone behind me. It was also difficult to find an angle that could display the "Michigan" sign but not the one underneath, something that I tried to do for the top left image.
