Reflection in WaterThere's this photo of when I was young of me looking at a purple flower blooming at the start of spring. Ever since then seeing these flowers brings comfort and nostalgia. Over the weekend it was gloomy and gray. I took a walk with only the expectation of taking gloomy and gray images. I was pleasantly surprised when I found flowers growing at the base of a tree. To get this shot I had to angle it in a way where the trees behind didn't show. Many of the photos that I have of these flowers doesn't have the right focus or the dirt beneath is visible. I had to find the right angle before being able to successfully take the images above.

Following Rivers |
Through the MirrorIt was hard to take a murky landscape and make it artful. I was standing on a bridge so I had to navigate past the railing to rid the image of "man-made" things. There were also houses just to the left that I had to lean in order to avoid. I wanted these photos to covey a sense of otherworldly-ness. Personally they remind me of things like Bridge to Terabithia and The Wizard of Oz, even though the lack the vibrant colors and obviously magical things. The way that the river is gradually obscured from view leaves much to the imagination.

Eye's veiwWhat made me take a pictures of this tree was the interesting pattern it struck against the sky. I love the leafy print blooming from the top branches and how it's a different color than sky and trunk but still gives the illusion of a silhouette. It was difficult to find an angle, when taking an image of something so tall, that didn't present itself as a style of photography other than landscape. I was limited to the pathway of the trail so I attempted to get closer and farther from the tree, trialing until I found a distance that worked.

Slant |
I found this sprout on my way home from school. I probably looked very interesting as I knelt in the dirt in front of an unknown neighbor's house. I wanted the green to stand out against a backdrop of the sky however there were power lines and road in the way. What I tried to get this image to convey is feeling of spring and blooming. How on this old tree there is new. Seeing these growing out of several places on this tree inspired me of new beginnings something that I hope I captured.
Gifts for Friends |
Classic PaintingPhotographing these tulips took many, many, many, attempts. I used a black folder that a found on a shelf as the backdrop, however the sun was casting light on it unevenly or was peaking over the sides and I would have to try again. These tulips sit in a vase on our counter, just bought for the new season. It is unlike our family to give flowers as gifts which to me represents (much like the image above) a new chapter. When I chose to photograph these tulips I was just doing it for fun, really wanting an image of the center of the flower, something that I think to be a new perspective. I hope that after seeing these images, you look at tulips a little differently.
