For my painting, I chose the song 30-40 by Melisses. It is a song about first meeting someone and then pledging the rest of your life to them. I wanted my painting to feel like looking toward the past as well as into the future. I tried to capture the sense of nostalgia in the dull colors and the sense of time in the way they swirl.
During this painting process, I mostly experimented with color and brush strokes. I also added water to certain colors to thin them and create an effect. I decided on the design after a lot of thought. This all pretty much went out the window when I realized that the piece had little to no texture or variation, which was completely beside the point of the assignment. Because of this, I did a lot of thinking on the spot and experimentation on how to make it more creative and engaging. This ended up resulting in a variety of shapes and textures on the topmost later. Throughout the whole process though, I was very adamant about including the two rectangles at the top, because they remind me of the opening of a letter.
I can't say that I would do anything differently. I am pretty happy with the result, even though it looks a little funny. I enjoyed painting this and wouldn't change anything
